    The Research & Publications Office (RPO) envisions to become a leading academic unit of STI West Negros University dedicated to advancing and facilitating high standards of research practice and dissemination within and beyond the walls of the University.

    RESEARCH AND PUBLICATIONS OFFICE MISSION

    The Research and Publications Office (RPO) is committed to creating a responsive research environment charged with generating new knowledge that will upgrade the teaching-learning standards through relevant research agenda.

    The center conducts original survey research, qualitative data collection, and data analysis that would support scholars as well as the University for Policy Decision-making.

    Objective research and consultation are provided through:

    Partnership: Establishing and developing research relationships, both within the University and with external public policy makers, researchers, and not-for-profit agencies locally, nationally, and internationally

    Research Excellence: Designing and providing quality research by adhering to the highest ethical standards and professional best practices.

  • STIWNU RESEARCH PRIORITIES

    The STI West Negros University (STIWNU) Research Agenda was formulated to support and promote the research needs of the school, industries, community, and the country. It was revised in June 2010 to align its priorities with the National Higher Education Research Agenda (NHERA), Regional Research Agenda, and Department of Science and Technology and to make it more responsive to both local and national needs. The Research Agenda was further reviewed on June 2014 giving consideration to National Higher Education Research Agenda-2 (NHERA-2),and in September of 2021 to keep it attuned to the changing times.

    NHERA-2 restates the general policies that should guide higher education research, presents strategies and initiatives to develop research capacity, enhance research productivity in higher education institutions, and identify priority areas for research and research-related programs in the next ten years. It is a product of a series of roundtable discussions on the changing conditions of higher education in the country and the state of research in Philippine colleges and universities. It incorporates the best thinking of national experts including institutional leaders, senior researchers and representatives from organizations that fund research.

    The Agenda is directed at three primary audiences, each playing a vital role in shaping Philippine higher education – state policy makers, institutional leaders, and researchers. It is designed to help them consider what types of research would contribute most in national development and to the advancement of the disciplines.

    Institutional Research Agenda

    The main thrust of STI West Negros University is embodied in its 7-point Institutional Research Agenda (IRA), stemming from collegiate/departmental themes, which were duly presented, discussed, and reviewed between and among the University stakeholders. The IRA has been based on the University’s vision, mission, graduate attributes, as well as current issues relevant to education and other allied disciplines. The scope of the research agenda has been broadened to provide opportunity for all academic units of the university to be involved in the generation of new knowledge along science, technology, and innovation. Moreover, faculty members of different academic units are also encouraged to engage in an interdisciplinary or interdepartmental research project.

    1. Language/social research, enhancement of arts and culture, numerical analyses and scientific computing;
    2. Governance, law, economics, evaluating GOCCs/BPOs, industry clustering and competitiveness, business in sustainable development, entrepreneurship, ergonomics, etc.;
    3. Law enforcement and public safety, legal reform, peace, justice, and social equity, crime research, and social responsibility;
    4. Ethics, philosophical thinking across generations, curriculum development & evaluation, social and cultural dimensions of education, and innovations of and assessment in teaching, including language, and literature and communication studies;
    5. Transport industry, energy efficiency, disaster management, environmental and climate change, water resource and water waste management, industrial waste management, industrial machineries and parts, creative industrial/knowledge-based services, agriculture machineries, renewable energy manufacturing, and integrated circuit design;
    6. Information systems, business and e-business, internet technologies, animation and graphics, networking/communications technology in health organizations, academic institutions, tourism sector, and government organizations; and human impacts of and innovations in IT and allied fields; and
    7. Equity and access, teachers’ well-being, learners’ motivation, attitudes, and perspectives, development and innovation of educational materials and models, bureaucracy, private- public partnership, entrepreneurship, and modernization of production sectors.

    1. College of Liberal Arts and Sciences

    1. Language research: Language in basic instruction; Ethnographic studies; Pure vs. Applied Linguistics;
    2. Social Research: Policy studies and policy formulation; Social science information network; and the role of science for service development.
    3. Enhancement of arts and culture: Philippine cultural heritage; indigenous music of ethnolinguistic groups; folk literature; role of humanities in the preservation and promotion of Filipino social and national values; Cultural identities and diversities; and
    4. Numerical analyses and scientific computing.

    2. College of Business Management and Accountancy

    1. Governance, economics, law, legal reform, peace, justice, and social equity;
    2. Evaluating GOCCs: Corporate governance and shareholder values; models for evaluating LGU; and Competencies for good governance;
    3. Drivers and barriers to competitiveness manpower survey for BPO;
    4. Industry clustering and competitiveness; policies for competitiveness; corrupt practices and competitiveness; and
    5. Business in sustainable development; entrepreneurship; ergonomics, etc.

    3. College of Criminal Justice Education

    1. Governance, economics, law, legal reform, peace, justice, and social equity;
    2. Crime rates, sex and domestic violence, surveillance, child abuse and maltreatment, gangs and organized crimes, drug abuse monitoring program, and juvenile delinquency.
    3. Law enforcement and public safety; police rules of engagement; and
    4. Social responsibility, crime prevention, good governance and community development.

    4. College of Education

    1. Ethics, religiosity, spirituality, and philosophical thinking across generations;
    2. Curriculum development & evaluation; Sports, fitness and health; and Pedagogical innovations, i.e., development of efficacy assessment;

    7. College of Hospitality and Tourism Management

    1. Eco-tourism, medical tourism, travel pattern and profile of tourists, issues on tour booking, online travel agency operations, career in hotel and restaurant industry, amusement and gaming, tourism laws, policy and planning, and heritage management;
    2. Travel: Aviation regulation policies and issues, maritime policy reviews, tourism infrastructure and development, and land use and transport knowledge;
    3. Accommodation: Competition and usage rate in hostels, motels and hotels; hotel operations and systems, hotel industry and careers, and profiling of hotels;
    4. Food safety/quality: Menu/food preparation, production and engineering, and food service and beverage management; and
    5. Restaurants and bars: Management of clubs, catering and banquet, marketing and industry growth of cafes, night clubs, public houses, and restaurants.

    8. School of Graduate Studies

    1. Equity and access: Development of models and paradigms in education; and Relevance and responsiveness;
    2. Curriculum development & evaluation; Pedagogical innovations, i.e.,development of efficacy assessment;

    • 3. Research aimed in producing/adapting education technologies and developing education programs in cutting edge fields such as ICT, Engineering, etc.

    Consistent with the New Higher Education Highway Toward a Knowledge-based Economy, research shall be encouraged in the following clusters of disciplines:

    4-Point Research Agenda

    Agendum 1 : Improving research capability among faculty and students towards international competitiveness.

    Strategies and Initiatives:

    • 1. Research capability building programs.
    • 2. Engaging graduate education to conduct studies in priority research areas

    Agendum 2 : Enhancing research productivity of faculty.

    Strategies and Initiatives:

    • 1. Institutionalization of rewards and incentives for research undertakings and outputs of faculty and researchers.
    • 2. Establish a peer-reviewed journal for faculty researches.

    Agendum 3 : Generating new knowledge needed to develop innovative programs in the various disciplines pursued at the university.

    Strategies and Initiatives:

    • 1. Harmonize research efforts with R&D initiatives of members of the national innovation system such as DOST, DA, DE, DENR, Congressional Commission on Science and Technology and other funding and implementing entities.
    • 2. Networking with other HEIs with research expertise in identified priority themes/disciplines.

    1. College of Liberal Arts and Sciences

    Advance frontiers of knowledge, skills and attitudes to enhance the research productivity in the fields of social and natural sciences, mathematics, and the humanities for the improvement of human life.

    2. College of Business Management and Accountancy

    Promote Corporate Social Responsibility, entrepreneurship, productivity and efficiency, giving emphasis on various feasibility studies, market analysis, industry studies, and case studies focusing on Business Management.

    3. College of Criminal Justice Education

    Study governance, crimes and justice systems with emphasis on Law Enforcement, Delinquency, Violence and Public Safety, Crime Detection and Investigation.

    4. College of Education

    AdvancResearches related to Students’ Readiness for Licensure Examination, Impact of Pre-school Education to Underprivileged Children, Role of Education Sector in Disaster Preparedness of the Country, Innovative and Collaborative Teaching Strategies and Techniques using Technology, Integration of OBE and K-12 in all Education Courses.

    5. College of Engineering

    Promote researches for the advancement of technology, use and management of natural resources, develop alternative fuels and construction materials, convert wastes to energy and useful materials, utilize technology in disaster and risk reduction interventions, and invent or innovate technology-related solutions to the needs/problems of the communities and industries.

    6. College of Information and Communication Technology

    AdvThe main thrust of the Department is to promote researches using ICT in the delivery of Academic Excellence and Social Development and Services, the use of ICT in Food Security, Waste Management and Disaster Mitigation and Control, the use of ICT in Strategic Planning and Social Media (Marketing).

    7. School of Graduate Studies

    Promote researches related to Teaching Effectiveness, Enhancement of Managerial and Leadership Skill, Alternative Systems in Education and Professional Enhancement Opportunities for Educators in Negros Island. Part of its agenda is also the Improvement of Quality of Human Life through Research and Extension and Values and Leadership for a Disciplined and Progressive Society.
